In response to transatlantic events, the Frontline Club and Byline Festival are coming to New York to launch a US version of their unique festival for independent journalism and free speech. The event will take place at the Edition Hotel, 5 Madison Ave, New York from 6pm to late.

We will be hosting a film screening + Q&A of Mosul as our opening night on the 6th November 7pm at the Bronx Documentary Center. To book tickets for this event click here.

Both British and US journalism is suffering a perfect storm of collapsing ad revenue, the rise of weaponised fake news and a crisis of truth in the wake of the Brexit referendum and election of President Trump

As part of its continuing mission to find new ways to fund good journalism, and create more trust and interaction among journalists, other truth tellers and the public, Byline and the Frontline Club will be giving a taster of their unique festival that combines journalism, activism, comedy, music and live speech.

With a focus on the common elements between the Trump and Brexit votes, and the crisis in legitimacy that has followed, the panels will explore the role of big data and dark money in both elections,(with the pioneering British journalist Carole Cadwalldr, David Carroll, an academic who is pursuing the Trump campaign’s data collection through the British courts, and Justin Hendrix an expert in emerging technology from NYC Media Lab, and Mary Fitzgerald, editor of Open Democracy)

This will be followed by a panel on the ‘Deep State’ (with Reprieve,  Anthony Barnett and Mark Ambinder)  to discuss how both corporate and state data capture defy both British and US laws of privacy and journalistic privilege. Will another deep state, the constitution and the first and fourth amendments, come to our rescue?

Tickets booked give you access to both days of events.
