Always look on the bright side of life: A Workshop to Manage Climate Anxiety
Climate change evokes a wide range of emotional responses—fear, sadness, anger, and sometimes helplessness. These feelings are natural and shared by many. The good news is, with the right tools and support, we can transform climate anxiety from a source of despair into a catalyst for resilience and positive action.
This interactive workshop, led by award winning clinical psychologist Professor Deborah Christie, offers compassionate, evidence-based strategies to transform anxiety into strength and invites you to navigate the emotional challenges of the climate emergency and learn practical strategies to cope effectively with confidence and optimism.
Through evidence-based approaches such as mindfulness, cognitive reframing, and community engagement, participants will discover how to nurture hope, manage overwhelming feelings, and regain a sense of agency.
Join us in cultivating a mindset of resilience—because even in the face of global challenges, hope and empowerment begin with understanding and self-care.

Author session: The Little Black Book of the Populist Right
Jon Bloomfield and David Edgar will be talking about their succinct, punchy Little Black Book of the Populist Right, published by Byline Books last summer and proving more prescient and topical by the minute. The book tells you all you need to know about the background, ideology and current prospects for parties now topping polls in Italy, Hungary, Holland and the USA, as well as bidding for power in France, Germany and – via Nigel Farage – here in Britain. Following Reform’s success in the local elections, it’s ever more urgent to understand and counter national-populism’s growing appeal.
Jon Bloomfield has more than forty years experience as policy maker and practitioner engaged with cities and regions in the UK and Europe on the three great issues of our era: social inequality; migration and climate change. For the last five years he has been writing with David Edgar on the dangers of national populism for Byline Times.
David Edgar‘s plays for the Royal Shakespeare Company include Destiny (about the National Front), Maydays (about political defection) and most recently The New Real (about national-populism). Edgar has written for journals including Searchlight, Marxism Today, the Times, the Guardian and the London Review of Books; as well as The Little Black Book of the Populist Right, with Jon Bloomfield.

the AI Goosebumps Club
The AI Goosebumps Club is based on the simple idea of creating thought experiments to explore questions such as ; Could an AI get goosebumps? Could it? No way? Is that a good question? If so, why? If not, why not? Could an AI be a “Member of the Family”? Exert authority over you? Be wistful? Four panelists will each create a thought experiment, exploring the emerging relationship between our embodied human selves and AI. Thinking through these issues, whether you are “in the business” , a partner, a colleague, son or daughter will give you some “tools for your head”, some of thinking, in a number of contexts both person and professional about your relationship with AI. These are issues about power and politics, poetry, intelligence, meaning and responsibility.
